In this series, I am interested in the atmosphere, or mood, created by entities as they interact. As in previous paintings, the individual unit remains an important motif. But here, its contribution—rather than itself— is foremost.
The series and titles of the paintings are derived from ancient medical philosophy, which posits that human dispositions result from the balance of four essences. Likewise, these paintings attempt to convey themes of melan- choly, cholera, sanguinity, and apathy.
